There are only a few hours left of 2014, or it may be already 2015 depending on where you are, and I finally have a few minutes peace and quiet, so I thought I’d sit down and reflect on the past 12 months.
To some people stats are meaningless, but I quite like them! Here are some stats from my travels last year.
Flights taken: 15.
Distance travelled from one destination to another: (does not include any travel within England):
- 24825 miles or 39952 kilometres.
Countries visited: (not including England).
With the exception of India, it was my first visit to the other three countries.
Capital cities visited: 4
- Dublin
- Lisbon
- London
- Oslo
Most Northern place visited:
- Oslo, Norway.
Most Southern place visited:
- Bangalore, India.
Furthest West:
- Lisbon, Portugal.
Furthest East:
- Chennai, India.
Live football matches seen: 3
- York City v. Hull City (pre-season friendly)
- York City v. Newport County (League 2)
- Arsenal v. Besiktas (Champions League)
Football stadiums visited: 2
- Bootham Crescent – York City.
- Emirates Stadium – Arsenal, London.
Best food eaten:
- Pork steak, with some creamy pepper sauce. The steak was also served with rice and chips. The steak and the sauce were absolutely delicious!
Worst food eaten:
- Betel leaf. When I was first offered this at a friend’s wedding, I misheard and thought that it was a beetle leaf (as in a beetle wrapped in a leaf)! Oh, how I wish it was, let me tell you, I’d rather have eaten a beetle! It was absolutely vile!
Best place visited:
- Lisbon, Portugal. This is the most western capital city in mainland Europe, and is cheap, clean and has a great climate. If you haven’t yet been, I recommend that you do.
Worst place visited:
- Chennai, India. Firstly, I’d like to apologise to the friends that I have that are from Chennai – sorry guys! I don’t like it though. Even though, thankfully it rained most of the time on my last visit, the weather is too hot and humid for me. It’s the place in India where I seem to get the most mosquito bites. The city itself is also too conservative for my liking. Maybe I’m being ignorant, but the city doesn’t seem to offer a lot, nor does there seem to be a great deal to do there.
Social Media:
2014 was better than I expected in terms of social media.
As of January 1st, 2015, there are more than 1500 of you on my Facebook page and more than 6500 of you following on Twitter. Thank you to each and every one of you.
My Instagram and Pinterest accounts are something that I must work on in 2015.
Happy New Year to all of my readers. Keep your eye on this blog and social media pages for further travels in 2015.
