Every trip that you take can be a chance to open your eyes to new things. Even when you travel within your own country, you can have unique experiences that you won’t be able to replicate elsewhere. But if you’re an intrepid explorer who loves to travel, maybe you’re always on the lookout for somewhere truly unique. You want your next trip to be one that you never forget because it changes the way that you look at the world. You can enjoy unforgettable experiences wherever you go, but here are some of the places where you can really have a unique trip.
Japan
Japan can be a country of extremes. It’s a very polite culture, where being respectful is important, but you can also discover that it has a wilder side. While there are lots of social rules, you can also discover a rich culture, ranging from the traditional side to more modern phenomena. There are plenty of reasons to visit Japan, and you’re sure to find that it’s like no other place. You might go for the food, from perfectly made sushi to ramen or okonomiyaki. Or you might visit for the cultural quirks, from cat cafes and robot cafes to sleeping in a pod hotel. There’s a huge range of experiences you can seek out to make your trip your own.
Mongolia
Perhaps Mongolia wouldn’t be your first choice when thinking of which Asian country to visit. Do you know much about it, beyond Ghengis Khan and Mongolian throat singing? But if you’re someone who loves the outdoors and is looking for incredible vistas to wow you, Mongolia could be the place for you. The Mongolia steppe offers some of the best views you will ever see over the grassy plains. It’s a great place for hiking and other outdoor activities, or perhaps to get involved with the local lifestyle.

Patagonia
Patagonia is a region at the southern tip of South America, which spans both Argentina and Chile, including the island of Tierra del Fuego. Sometimes called the land of fire and ice, it’s a region where you can find glaciers, mountains and forests. Travel to Ushuaia, the capital of Tierra del Fuego, and you’ll be in the southernmost city in the world. This is a region you could choose to hike through, or you could even kayak along the coast for a unique adventure. Travellers looking for somewhere remote to experience new things could do a lot worse than Patagonia.
South Africa
Another option for anyone wanting to travel to the southern tip of a continent is South Africa. One of the most popular African countries for visitors, it’s incredibly diverse, with many different cultures, languages, and people. There are many different ways to experience the country, from going on safari to volunteering in South Africa. Whether you do all of the typical tourist things or you seek out a slightly different experience, you have a huge choice of things to do. You’ll come away from South Africa definitely wanting to go back as soon as you can and maybe try something differ

Australia
Australia is no stranger to people’s bucket lists. Between the diverse cities and the expanse of the outback, the country has a lot to offer. For many people, one of the natural attractions is the thing that they don’t want to miss, whether it’s the Great Barrier Reef or Uluru. Exploring the less developed part of Australia can be a great way to get a unique experience, but even some of the towns and cities can be very interesting. Take Coober Pedy in South Australia, sometimes called the opal capital of the world. Much of the town is underground because it’s cooler away from the heat of the outdoors.
The Arctic
If you’re looking for a challenge, heading to the Arctic might be the one for you. It’s an extreme environment and much of it is still unmapped, but it can also offer some unforgettable experiences. Some parts of the Arctic Circle are more accessible and you could even enjoy an Arctic cruise, whereas other parts aren’t for the faint-hearted. Of course, you could approach the Arctic from several different places, including Scandinavia, Russia and Canada, as well as Greenland. But if you’re thinking about an Arctic expedition, you need to be made of tough stuff.

Bolivia
Bolivia might not have Machu Picchu or the Christ the Redeemer statue, but it does have some exciting things of its own. In Bolivia, you can find Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the world, plus the world’s largest salt flats. The salt flats are particularly interesting for anyone who is fascinated by great expanses of nothing. The surreal landscape of Salar de Uyuni is a sight that you certainly won’t forget in a hurry. You can even stay at a hotel that’s entirely made from blocks of salt.
Indonesia
Indonesia is made up of more than 17,000 islands of different sizes. Around 6,000 of these are actually inhabited, with some of the main islands being Sumatra, Java, Borneo, and Sulawesi. There are many ways to have a unique experience when you visit Indonesia, from sailing around the islands to taking care of orangutans in Borneo. If you want to explore the country’s history and culture, seeing some of the temples can be a great way to do it. For example, there’s the Borobudur Temple on Java, which is the largest Buddhist temple in the world.
Greece
History buffs will know that Greece has a lot to offer when it comes to interesting historical sites. Plus, there’s a lot more to see of the country beyond the Parthenon. Like Indonesia, Greece also has some amazing islands to explore (although not as many) and it can be a great country to sail around. Greece is also a good choice for culture, food and a lot more, on top of the interesting history.
Travel through a country that you’re never going to forget next time you’re looking for a unique experience for your travels.
